Ansar

Also known as: Helpers

Homeland: Medina

The Ansar (“Helpers”) were the Muslims of Medina who welcomed and supported Muhammad and the Meccan emigrants (Muhajirun) after the Hijra.

Their hospitality was crucial to the establishment of the Muslim community. The Quran praises both the Muhajirun and Ansar, and their cooperation became a model for Muslim unity.
