Edomites

Also known as: Idumeans, Sons of Esau

Homeland: Edom (Seir)

The Edomites descended from Esau, Jacob’s twin brother. They inhabited the mountainous region of Seir, south of the Dead Sea, and were thus related to the Israelites.

Relations between Israel and Edom were often hostile. The prophets particularly condemned Edom for celebrating Jerusalem’s fall. King Herod the Great was of Idumean (Edomite) descent.
