First Punic War

Rome’s first major overseas war against Carthage marked the beginning of Roman expansion beyond the Italian peninsula. The 23-year conflict ended with Roman control of Sicily.

The Punic Wars would establish Rome as the dominant Mediterranean power, eventually leading to Roman control over the entire region, including Judea.
