Traditional founding of Rome
753 BCE (approximate)
Founding of Rome
According to Roman tradition, Romulus founded Rome on April 21, 753 BCE. While the legendary account of Romulus and Remus is mythological, archaeological evidence confirms settlement on the Palatine Hill around this period.
Rome would grow from a small city-state to an empire that would dominate the Mediterranean, including Judea, during the time of Jesus and the early church.
