Great Pyramid of Giza built

2560 BCE (approximate)

Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza was constructed as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops). Standing at 481 feet, it was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years.

The pyramid required an estimated 2.3 million stone blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5 tons. Its construction represents one of the greatest engineering achievements of the ancient world.

Built during Egypt’s Old Kingdom, the pyramid reflects the immense power and organizational capacity of the Egyptian state at its height.
