Roman Republic Established

The last Roman king was overthrown and the Roman Republic was established, creating a system of elected magistrates and a senate that would govern Rome for nearly 500 years.

The Republican system, with its emphasis on law and civic virtue, shaped Roman culture and institutions that would later govern Judea and provide the legal framework under which Jesus was tried.
