Vesuvius destroys Pompeii

Vesuvius Destroys Pompeii
Mount Vesuvius erupted catastrophically, burying the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum under volcanic ash. The eruption killed thousands but preserved the cities in remarkable detail.
The disaster occurred less than a decade after the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple, during the period when the early church was spreading throughout the Roman Empire.
