Antiochus IV Epiphanes

Seleucid king whose persecution of Judaism sparked the Maccabean revolt. Banned circumcision, Sabbath observance, and Torah possession on pain of death. Desecrated the Temple with pig sacrifices and a Zeus altar—the “abomination of desolation.” His death allowed Temple rededication (Hanukkah).
