Husayn ibn Ali

Younger grandson of Muhammad. Refused to accept Yazid’s caliphate. Led a small group to Kufa but was intercepted at Karbala and killed with most of his family by Umayyad forces on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura). His martyrdom is central to Shia Islam and commemorated annually. Third Imam for Shia Muslims.
