Jeroboam I

First king of the northern kingdom (Israel). Had been one of Solomon’s officials. Set up golden calves at Bethel and Dan to keep people from worshipping in Jerusalem—the “sin of Jeroboam” that all subsequent northern kings followed. His dynasty ended with his son Nadab.
