Pontius Pilate
Roman prefect of Judea (26–36 CE) who presided over Jesus’ trial. Found “no fault” in Jesus but yielded to the crowd’s demand for crucifixion, washing his hands symbolically. His question “What is truth?” remains famous. Inscriptions confirm his historicity.
