Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains... The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today. The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

Historical Significance
After the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot’s daughters, believing the world had been destroyed, conceived children by their father. Their sons Moab and Ben-Ammi became the ancestors of the Moabites and Ammonites—peoples who would have complex relationships with Israel throughout biblical history.
