Job 1:6-12

The Divine Council—Satan appears before God to accuse Job.

The Accuser

In Job, Satan (the “adversary”) appears as a member of the heavenly council who tests human faithfulness. This early portrait of Satan as God’s permitted tester differs from later developed concepts of the devil, yet laid the groundwork for them.
