John 2:13-22

John 2 :13 -22

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves... So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts... 'Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.'... But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

Context

Jesus cleanses the Temple and prophesies his resurrection.

John 2:13-22

The Cleansing of the Temple—Jesus’ prophetic action and prediction of resurrection.

Temple and Body

Jesus drives merchants from the Temple, quoting “zeal for your house.” His cryptic words about destroying “this temple” referred to his own body—a claim that would be raised at his trial. The Temple’s sanctity matters across all three faiths.
