Levite patriarch who lived during Israel’s enslavement in Egypt, father of three children who would become central figures in Israel’s deliverance: Moses the lawgiver, Aaron the first high priest, and Miriam the prophetess. Son of Kohath, he married Jochebed, his father’s sister, and lived 137 years according to Scripture (Exodus 6:20). In Islamic tradition, the “family of Imran” (Quran 3:33) refers to this lineage, though Islamic sources also identify Imran as the father of Mary.
