Mother of Samuel, one of the Bible’s great stories of answered prayer. Barren and mocked by her rival wife, she prayed desperately at Shiloh. She vowed to dedicate any son to God’s service, and kept that vow by giving Samuel to Eli. Her prayer of thanksgiving (1 Samuel 2) influenced Mary’s Magnificat.
