Son of promise, born miraculously to Abraham and Sarah in their old age, second of the three patriarchs of Israel. Nearly sacrificed by Abraham on Mount Moriah in the ultimate test of faith—the Akedah, foundational to Jewish, Christian, and Islamic understanding of faithfulness and divine provision. Married Rebekah after Abraham’s servant found her at a well in Haran. A quieter figure than his father or sons, Isaac dug wells in Canaan, received confirmation of the Abrahamic covenant at Beersheba, and in his old age blessed Jacob (through Rebekah’s deception) with the covenant blessing. In Islam, Ishaq is honored as a prophet.
