Ja'far ibn Abi Talib

Cousin of Muhammad, son of Abu Talib and brother of Ali. Early convert who led the migration to Abyssinia in 615 CE, eloquently defending Islam before the Negus. Returned to Medina and was appointed commander at the Battle of Mu’tah in 629 CE, where he was martyred after picking up the banner three times. Islamic tradition teaches he was given wings in Paradise, earning the title “Ja’far the Flyer.”
