Son of Terah and brother of Abraham and Nahor, notable for dying before his father in Ur of the Chaldeans (Genesis 11:28)—one of Scripture’s earliest recorded instances of a child predeceasing a parent. Father of Lot, Milcah, and Iscah. Through Lot, he became ancestor of the Moabites and Ammonites; through Milcah (who married her uncle Nahor), ancestor of Rebekah and Laban. Not to be confused with Haran the city, where Terah later settled after leaving Ur.
