Levi

Third son of Jacob and Leah, ancestor of the Levites, the priestly tribe of Israel. Together with his brother Simeon, Levi avenged the assault on their sister Dinah by killing the men of Shechem (Genesis 34). Jacob cursed their fierce anger and decreed they would be scattered in Israel (Genesis 49:5-7). Yet this curse transformed into blessing: through his grandson Amram, Levi became ancestor of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. The Levites were set apart for religious service, receiving no territorial inheritance but dwelling among all the tribes as priests and teachers—scattered not in punishment but in holy purpose.
