Also known as: Qur'an, Koran, Al-Quran, The Noble Quran, The Recitation

Quran

The central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the verbatim word of God (Allah) revealed to Prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel over approximately 23 years.

In Islam

The Quran is considered the final and complete revelation from God, superseding and correcting previous scriptures. It is written in Arabic and divided into 114 chapters (surahs) containing verses (ayat). Muslims believe it is perfectly preserved and inimitable in its literary form. Memorization of the entire Quran (becoming a hafiz) is highly honored.

Structure and Content

The Quran addresses theology, law, morality, and guidance for daily life. It contains narratives of prophets shared with Jewish and Christian traditions (Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus) while presenting distinctly Islamic teachings. The opening chapter (Al-Fatiha) is recited in every Muslim prayer.
