Haran

Brother of Abraham and Nahor. Son of Terah. Father of Lot, Milcah, and Iscah.

Death

Haran is notable for dying before his father Terah, in the land of his birth—Ur of the Chaldeans. This is mentioned in Genesis 11:28 and represents one of the earliest recorded instances of a child predeceasing a parent in the biblical narrative.

Descendants

Through his son Lot, Haran became the ancestor of the Moabites and Ammonites. Through his daughter Milcah, who married her uncle Nahor, he became an ancestor of Rebekah and Laban.

Note on Name

Not to be confused with Haran the city, where Terah settled and died after leaving Ur.
